About this course

By the end of this unit you will be able to:
a) use appropriate expressions to greet and interact with patients at the
reception desk and  give directions in a hospital
b) be able to communicate procedures for admission to patients
c) use vocabulary on the parts of the body and internal organs and use vocabulary connected with equipment necessary to take patient
observations
d) explain procedures when taking vital signs and  fill in observation forms

e) use vocabulary of the body systems and connect it to the
specialised departments in a hospital and conduct a medical assessment and complete documentation
f) find out and respond to patient needs after surgery in the recovery
unit, in the ward and assess patient pain in terms of intensity
g) read an IV prescription chart and an IV fluid chart

Syllabus

Unit 1 - At the Reception: Admitting Patients

a) use appropriate expressions to greet and interact with patients at the reception desk b) give directions in a hospital c) be able to communicate procedures for admission to patients d) be able to make the patients welcome e) use questions in the Present Tense to ask for information

Unit 2 - The Human Body: Taking Admission Obs

a) use vocabulary on the parts of the body and internal organs b) use vocabulary connected with equipment necessary to take patient observations c) explain procedures when taking vital signs d) fill in observation forms

Unit 3 - Admitting Patients: Assessment Record Interview

a) use vocabulary of the body systems and connect it to the specialised departments in a hospital b) interview a patient using appropriate body language and effective questions to conduct a medical assessment c) complete a patient assessment form using the appropriate language

Unit 4 - Post Operative Care

a) find out and respond to patient needs after surgery in the recovery unit and in the ward b) assess patient pain in terms of intensity c) give instructions on how to change an IV line to a trainee nurse d) explain the changing of IV procedure to a patient e) read an IV prescription chart and an IV fluid chart
